Outsourcing Benefits Outweigh the Cons

Outsourcing is a very common resort among businesses in the US and other first world nations these days. With the present economic status, companies opt to downsize, sometimes eradicating entire departments to simply outsource the services to other companies that specialize on those departments’ functions. In fact, the trend these days is to outsource to English-speaking third world countries where labor is decidedly cheaper.

There are clearly many benefits in going down this path. Cost is foremost, of course. Outsourcing is simply the practical option. There was a time half a decade ago when Amtrak was in the soup for attempting to outsource railroad jobs overseas. Several senators came breathing down the national railroad company’s neck for proposing to give away jobs to non-Americans when the unemployment rate in the US was high.

Another point raised was about Amtrak being subsidized by American taxpayers’ money, making it plainly unpatriotic to outsource to other countries. Amtrak abandoned its proposal to outsource to offshore companies, but it has definitely outsourced some parts already, such as the dining services, to private companies.

Other companies have not been hindered in this way. They’ve tapped services from other nations and found the process very cost-effective. If it’s a question of saving the business from going under, outsourcing benefits totally overcome the disadvantages.
